Auto Maintenance 101 is definitely meant for you if.. You've never been the least bit mechanically inclined, and have convinced yourself of it. You've always instinctively shied away from anything to do with cars except to drive them. You frankly wince at the thought of getting involved with anything 'under a car hood' You have never been 'great' at 'fixing things' anyway; in fact you know next to nothing at all about tools....... 5 stars (Microsoft Xbox) - So your looking at buying an xbox? here is the experience i have had with mine: I have had my xbox for a year and a half with no problems, well, i mean there was a frozen screen every now and then. but it was very rare.because of xboxes great graphics chip and CPU it can play the same quality game as the ones you can find on you PC. (which is better than the PS2 and Gamecube). The design of the xbox is a little bulky, but at least it looks kinda cool. In the past people have complained about faulty DVD disk drives. what they say WAS true, you see, Microsoft has made a NEW xbox system for the same price of 150. they made this system in march 2004.I have had my NEW xbox versian since it came out in march. and i have had no problems what so ever. and for the one person who wants 3 good games for the xbox..well here they are! Halo 2 (not on computer) Star Wars Nights of the old republic 2 and fusion Frenzy... thats only 3 but i can go on for days naming games like: Starwars republic commando, burnout revenge, half life 2, battlefront 1 & 2, KOTOR, project gothem 1 & 2 that are all good. one reviewer said that it is cheaper to buy a computer??? .... most computers cost around 500 dollars to get a decent one about the same quality of an xbox! and computer games arent 2 player unless you have more than 1 computer! so if you want to play xbox halo 1 2 player then you buy an xbox (150) and 1 extra controller (25) and halo (20) so that adds up to about 200 for a computer halo 2player you need 2 300 computers (600) 2 DIFFERENT disks of halo 1 (40) 640 so here is your choice... play halo1 2player with a computer and spend 640 or get halo1 for xbox 2player and spend 200. the choice is yours. xbox holds more power than ps2 AND gamecube put together (well almost as much)! the xbox comes with 4 controller ports and a BUILT IN network adapter. Yes, with xbox live you pay 30 bucks a year.....but you can join clans talk to eachother play anyone... 5 stars (History of World Supercar Industry) - Antonio Ghini's book contains whatever lies below the "Prancing Horse" badge, for models produced in the 50 years period; moreover, it helps to understand and find answers of today's automotive & motorsports technologies' innovational questions which are solved decades before. The online version of the book is available at CuoreSPORTIVO ICEO Web Site with pictures. 2 stars (Awesome Official Account of Racing History) - This is the true story - from Enzo's days as an Alfa Romeo engineer and race mechanic, up to his death...and beyond. It's refreshing to find the story so well summed up - while it's not an unbiased account, it's exactly what you'd expect from the folks who make some of the most amazing machines on the face of this earth. What an awesome story, and great pictures to boot! 4 stars (Balanced book) - This book accomplish quite properly it mission. To give us a shallow look at the first 50 years of the make. Good and some very rare pictures, diagrams explaining technical solutions and good but condensed text. A must. ... 4 stars (More Proficient Motorcycling : Mastering the Ride) - Excellent content. The information is priceless but it would be a big plus if the publisher could find a way to bind the book to help prevent it from falling apart while you read it. I had the same problem with the first book "Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well". 5 stars (More for riders...less for beginners) - The 1st Hough book Proficient Motorcycling is a very complete overview of the motorcycle, its mechanics and basic safety. That book serves starting riders very well. I read "More" proficient motorcycling soon after I finished the first book and when I had less than 200 miles under my belt. At that point in time I found that I was not ready for the 2nd book. I couldn't make sense of the examples. The book is much more a discussion with riders than a training course for beginners. This spring after beginning to commute to work on the motorcycle and having many more hours of cycle time I re-read the book in prerparation to return to the road. With more experience the book was much more useful. Where the first book told the reader what to do, "More" gives examples, choices and options for the rider to consider. The book is extremely thought provoking. It contains many excellent examples including a section that describes how you can lay out your own training course (assuming you have the tarmac to do it)and much helpful advice on cornering. If you are just starting out read the first book before this you read this one. You'll need the grounding. If you are an experienced rider I would suggest reading this book every year as you gear up for the riding season (unless of course you are lucky enough to live where its always riding season, then I'd make it a New Year's resolution). Any way you slice it its another excellent book from Mr. Hough. 5 stars (The perfect complement to the first book) - In a few words, after reading the first one -Proficient Motorcycling- one cannot expec... 5 stars (Too good...) - This book is beyond review.. Its in a league of its own. The content is thorough, indepth and is easy to comprehend by anyone. I found the book enjoyable, not just informative. The graphs in the book reiterate what the text says in an easy and understandable way. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who would want to master vehicle dynamics, as well as engineers seeking to have topics such as aerodynamics and mechanics explained better, and in a more specified field. As well as topics such as vehicle design and race engineering from a management point of view. The book was written by the best in the business and you do get what you pay for. 5 stars (The mother of all books about race cars) - This is the mother of all books about race cars. If you were missing deep theoretical background on tuning your sports car or street car, this volume is for you. It is impossible to describe in detail what this textbook is about, in a single review. What I liked most is the chapter on dampers (shock absorbers). It gave me the answers to lots of questions that I had before reading this published work, for example how to choose "ride/handling compromise" when adjusting damping ratio? Why stiffer dampers are more comfortable on large-amplitude bumps, while softer dampers provide smoother ride on small-amplitude bumps? "In an automobile, a suspension is used to reduce the discomfort induced by unevenness in the highway. As measure of discomfort is the vertical acceleration that the passenger is subjected while sitting in the vehicle". The book demonstrates the model where the passenger is linked to the road via three springs in a sequence: tire, coil and the seat, and one damper (shock absorber). There is a graph showing passenger vertical acceleration depending on the amplitude (frequency) of road irregularities, for distinct shock absorbers with various damping ratios. For a stiff shock absorber this diagram shows relatively flat curve, wher... 5 stars (an exceptional book. a must read for any serious driver.) - This book is amongst the best I have ever read in terms of driving. It covers a tremendous amount of detail. This is a most read, is it not only from one of the top racing schools in the country, is allot cheaper. The information in this book is like having ten other books put together. Although this book covers almost everything it is not the only one to read. 5 stars (Perhaps the Most Complete Racing Instruction Book) - I think I must have bought almost every book there is on racing instruction over the years, and this book definitely ranks in the top three. It is incredibly complete and easy to understand. It also was good to read before the Skip Barber courses in order to get an advantage over the other drivers, and I still refer to it on a regular basis in Renault, etc. A MUST buy for anyone serious about competition! Peter Olson 4 stars (The Best Manual of a Beginning Competition Driver) - I couldn't "swallow" this book at once, it took me three sessions during a couple of months to figure out that amongst the good books on motor sports this one serves the role of a guidebook, of a manual of a beginning competition driver, best of all. What do I mean by "good books"? Competition Driving by Alain Prost, The Technique of Motor Racing by Piero Taruffi, Driving in Competition by Alan Johnson, Sports Car and Competition Driving by Paul Frere, to name a few. All of them are wise and not overcomplicated, and have no buzz about the success stories of champions, the buzz which is useless for the reader interested in driving techniques. I've found out that the definition of oversteer and understeer here is the most complete and most correct amongst the books that I've listed, yet without the formulas that may frighten somebody. It took the author 17 pages full of illustrations to explain these modes of car behaviour. This is the first big advantage of this book. Another major advantag... 5 stars (reading pleasure) - "Sunday Money" is all about NASCAR. Subtitled: "Speed! Lust! Madness! Death! - a hot lap around America with NASCAR", it fulfills its promise of an exciting ride. The author and his photographer wife bought a motorhome and spent an entire racing season following the NASCAR circuit. The book describes the allure of NASCAR from the several different perspectives of superstars, fans, history and politics, mythology, American culture. To this non-fan, it provides a vast amount of information and insight and reading pleasure. Jeff MacGregor is a fine storyteller. 4 stars (Sunday Money) - This is both a whimsical as well as a fast paced work about the fastest paced sport in America. Jeff MacGregor has a personal story to tell about his year in a motor home with "The Beep" and the inside story about the NASCAR culture. Both stories are well told and attention gripping. MacGregor's insights into the fact and fiction of NASCAR are penetrating. At the same time he has a puckish, tongue in cheek attitude toward the sport and his own adventure. Even if one has little or no interest in the world of auto racing, this will be an enjoyable companion on a trip or a pleasant escape from the every day world most of us inhabit. By the way, although it isn't mentioned in the bio on the book jacket, I think this is the same Jeff MacGregor who hosted a game show some years back. 4 stars (NASCAR fans-got to read!) - This book details the dream many of us NASCAR fans have-traveling the whole circuit in an RV, experiencing every race. I really liked the book-the history of NASCAR, the money, and the good stories of drivers, all were great! Having camped at races, I understand the joy of it. It is like you are one big family! ...
